Mr. Gregory Myron Dortch, Sr., is the Fiscal/Compliance Consultant of the Ida B. Wells Community Academy. Gregory and his wife, Fay Doris Dortch, are natives of Akron, Ohio and have lived there all of their lives. Their present address is 245 Noble Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44320. Together they have eight children and eight grandchildren. Gregory graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He presently is employed with the State of Ohio Auditor's Office as an Assistant State Auditor and is studying for the C.P.A. examination.. He has been serving in this capacity for the past nine years. In the past Gregory has worked for the RCA Rubber Company and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and the City of Akron Water Department. He also served as the President of Local # 8 of the United Rubber Workers Union.

Gregory is presently a member of the Church of Christ located at 1147 Wooster Avenue in Akron, Ohio. On June 8, 1968, Gregory was baptized into this congregation. In November 1984 he was instrumental, along with Wash McCall Jr. in the establishing another congregation of the Church of Christ located at 532 South Van Buren Street in Barberton, Ohio. He remained a faithful member of this congregation serving in the capacity of a Trustee, Financial Secretary, Song Director, Minister of Personal Evangelism / Prison Ministry, Superintendent of Sunday School, Bible Teacher and Van Driver. By the sacrif~cial efforts of Wash McCall Jr., Minister, Jaylen Dupree, Trustee, and Gregory, many members were baptized and added to the Church. After serving with the congregation in Barberton for fourteen years, Gregory returned to the Church of Christ in Akron on September 6, 1998.

While presently serving in the capacity of Fiscal / Compliance Consultant of the Ida B. Wells Community Academy, Gregory M. Dortch's responsibility will be as follows:

  • to give insight to management in the establishment of Policies and Procedures for compliance with the Ohio Revised Code as it relates to Community School rules and regulations;
  • to give insight into the establishment of internal controls over the Bank Reconciliation and Investment cycle, the Receipt and Expenditure, and Budgetary cycles, etc.; and
  • to give insight to the proper maintenance of fund accounting and reporting.
